WASHINGTON, D.C. — On June 18, the International Tibetan Media Organization (ITMO) hosted a press conference with Sikyong Penpa Tsering at the Office of Tibet in Washington, D.C. More than 20 Tibetan journalists attended and submitted questions during the session.

Addressing the gathering, Sikyong Penpa Tsering commended the founding of ITMO, emphasizing its vision for addressing long-term media needs beyond current challenges.

"The establishment of this international Tibetan news organization was not undertaken solely in response to the present media environment. Rather, it was founded with the foresight that similar circumstances may also arise in the future, and with careful consideration of long-term needs,"said Sikyong Penpa Tsering.

"In particular, following the suspension of news coverage and information services relating to Tibet by VOA and RFA, there is a growing sense that a significant gap has emerged in the provision of information to Tibetans both inside Tibet and in exile. In light of this, I wish to express my sincere gratitude and commendation to all of you for your collective efforts in establishing such an important and necessary organization."

ITMO is dedicated to advancing and promoting independent Tibetan journalism, safeguarding the public’s right to truth and access to information, and strengthening democratic values through free and ethical media.
